Step 1 of 3: takes five seconds

Who is the will for?

Pick one and we take you straight to your first question. Nothing is saved until you answer.

Not sure which? Choose “Just me”. You can change your mind before you finish. See how it works first.

Why it matters

Without a will, the law decides. Not you.

If you die without a will, your estate is shared under fixed rules, in a fixed order of relatives. It does not matter what you told people you wanted.

Your partner may get nothing

Unmarried partners do not inherit automatically under the intestacy rules, however long you have lived together.

Step-children are left out

Children who are not legally yours do not inherit unless you say so in a will.

No say over your children’s care

A parent with parental responsibility can name guardians in a will. Without one, decisions about who looks after young children can end up with a court.

Slower and harder for your family

Someone has to sort everything out at the worst possible time. A will names the people you trust to do it.

The fix takes about 15 minutes and, right now, costs nothing.

Exactly what you get

The free will, in full

This is everything included. There are no hidden steps and nothing here has a separate fee.

The honest bit

Why is it free?

Because we would rather you had a will than not, and because most people who make a will also realise they need Lasting Powers of Attorney. Those cover you while you are alive, if you ever cannot make decisions for yourself. They are optional, and they are paid.

You can say no and still keep your free will. There is no pressure and no card on file.

What we ask in return: nothing. If you like what we have done, tell someone you know who has not made a will.

How it works

From first question to a will you can sign

  1. Answer questions

One at a time, in a chat. Each has a short reason for asking. About 15 minutes.

  2. Read your summary

Everything in plain English. You confirm it is right, or change it.

  3. A person reviews it

A will writer at Jackson Giles Legal Services checks it before it is finalised.

  4. Print and sign

Download your will and signing guide, print them, and sign in front of two witnesses.

Our no-risk promise

You pay nothing, and you sign nothing you have not read.

  • You are not asked for card details to make your will.
  • You read a plain-English summary before anything is finalised.
  • A person reviews it. If your situation needs advice, we tell you before you rely on it.
  • If it is not right for you, you walk away having paid nothing.

Optional, after your will

Cover yourself while you are alive too

A will only takes effect after you die. Lasting Powers of Attorney let someone you trust handle your money, or your health and care, if you ever cannot. We reuse your answers so you do not start from scratch.

From £10 per LPA

Print it yourself. Fill in the official forms by chat, then print and send them to the Office of the Public Guardian, which charges its own £92 fee per LPA (half, or nothing, if you qualify).

Prefer a person?

We can check your answers, hold a phone consultation, review your signed documents and register them for you. See the full prices on the LPA page.

Is it right for you?

Honest about when you need a person first

A good fit

  • England or Wales is your permanent home
  • You want to leave your estate to family, friends or charities
  • You want to name executors and guardians
  • You are a couple wanting matching wills

Talk to a person first

  • You live outside England and Wales, or own property abroad
  • You want a trust, including a life interest for a partner
  • You own a business or farm
  • Your estate might owe inheritance tax
  • There is a vulnerable beneficiary, or a risk of a family dispute
No legal advice online. WillBot asks the questions and drafts the document. Where your situation is complicated we say so and bring in a person from Jackson Giles Legal Services.

Questions

Free will questions, answered

Is the free will really free?

Yes. During the launch promotion there is nothing to pay for a single will (normally £40) or mirror wills for a couple (normally £80), and you are never asked for card details. You print and sign the finished will at home. Optional extras, such as Lasting Powers of Attorney, are priced separately and only if you choose them.

What is the catch?

There is no catch on the will itself. We make wills free because many people who make a will also want Lasting Powers of Attorney, which are paid, and because we would rather you had a will than not. You can say no to anything else and still keep your free will. The promotion is not permanent, and the normal prices apply once it ends.

Is a free online will legally valid in England and Wales?

Yes, if it is signed correctly. A will must be in writing, made by someone aged 18 or over with mental capacity, and signed in front of two witnesses who then sign in your presence. How the will was prepared and whether you paid for it do not affect its validity. Mistakes at signing are the most common reason home-made wills fail, so WillBot gives you a signing guide.

Is my free will checked by a real person?

Yes. A will writer at Jackson Giles Legal Services reviews your will before it is finalised. WillBot itself asks the questions and drafts the document but does not give legal advice.

Who can make a free will with WillBot?

Anyone aged 18 or over whose permanent home is England or Wales. If you live elsewhere, own a business or property abroad, want a trust, or your estate may owe inheritance tax, you should speak to a person first, and we will say so.

What is a free mirror will for couples?

Mirror wills are two separate wills with matching wishes, usually leaving everything to each other first and then to the same people. During the promotion a couple can make both wills free from one set of answers. They are not legally binding on each other, so the survivor is normally free to change theirs after the first death.

How long will wills stay free?

The free wills are a launch promotion and we have not set an end date. When it ends, this page will say so and the normal prices of £40 for a single will and £80 for mirror wills will apply.

What happens if I die without a will?

Your estate is shared under the intestacy rules, which follow a fixed order of relatives. Unmarried partners do not inherit automatically, however long you have lived together, and step-children are left out. A will lets you decide instead.

Fifteen minutes now. Certainty for the people you love.

Free while the promotion runs, normally £40 for one person or £80 for a couple. Your answers save as you go, so you can start now and finish later.
